“Unity” One of the things going on around here is our plan to move to Oregon. For me, this is a big deal, with all the shit I have to move. Maybe not all, but it's mostly stuff only I care about. Anyway, I've been trying to look ahead and use up materials, finish projects, and organize… to a small degree… :) "Unity" is a new piece that is a result of this process. I had this piece of red oak that I saved from the burn pile that had a nice shape to start with. I had not taken good care of this log; I sealed the ends with paint, I didn't take the bark off, and left it outside uncovered. So basically, the sapwood was really punky and rotten. Once I noticed this, I was dealing with stripping the bark off and removing the soft parts. I started to remove material, and one thing led to another, and this is the result. I am not quite done, as I think I will fill the checks with blackened epoxy and set it up to hang on the wall…
