Bronze, Wenge  7" by 6" by 17"

“Unity” was carved from a solid piece of Cherry Wood, which was formerly a piece of firewood. The surface has many small cracks, so it was not a very fancy sculpture. Still, it had a loving / caring quality to it, so I used the lost wax process to cast it in Bronze. To me, there is a plant-like quality to this piece. The front view is flower-like; the mother and child are symbolized, the outer form cradling the ball or egg shape in the middle of the sculpture. The back is very simple, flowing lines, but also flares out so it’s hand-like to a degree. I try to make each sculpture engaging from all sides, but this one is kind of a one-sided sculpture. There are some times when the sculpture becomes what the shapes are bringing to my mind as I'm working on it. I can't say I plan these things, but I do help them along once I see it playing out. I am always looking for something to move the eye and show movement and life in my work. Thanks for looking..
