DOUGLAS BECHLER

Welcome... It's been awhile since I have done any updating to my part of this site.. Which I have had for over 25 years!!

Lately I've been working to renew this site, so it works with mobile phones, etc.. Adding my Father's compositions, and my Mom's paintings. For my part, I plan to show Artwork completed in the past, and the new work I will complete in the future. I have not been very active with my Pottery lately. As I have had some health issues, and other distractions... that and some motivation issues. :) For the longest time I thought I would get back to making sculpture, so I was reluctant to sell my work. I wanted to have this body of work to present.. Anyway, 30 yrs have pasted and I think it's time.. Please check out my Etsy Shop for artwork available for sale.. Also.. Feel free to share, we need all the help we can get. :) Thanks, Doug..

Carved Swimming Mallard by Douglas Bechler

BIRD CARVING

"Swimming Mallard" After graduating HS in 1980, I was a little lost. But I had the idea I would carve waterfowl, and sell them to the tourists. After a while, learning by doing. Pam a family friend, showed my carved birds to the Chruchill Gallery in NBPT.

WOOD SCULPTURE

"Wind Blown" After I stopped carving birds, I started doing Carpentry, leaving no time for Art. Until a trip to New Mexico inspired me to start on these Organic Sculptures. I was trying to keep things simple, after so much detailed work.

BRONZE SCULPTURE

"Moore is Hardly Enough" After having some success with the wood sculptures. I started thinking I could make money by casting my work. Mass Art had a foundry class at the time, so I worked very hard to take advantage of those classes..

STONE & BAS RELIEF

"Embrace" I didn't carve much stone, but I love the material.. I remember driving up to Vermont, and loading all this marble into my poor little Toyota, that I never used... I was also getting into Wall Sculpture, Bas Relief, so those are here as well.

FOOTWEAR

"Carved Foam Model" Started working at FILA as a Model Maker, after a pretty disappointing Art Show in 1997. My friend Alex worked there, and I knew the VP from around town. It was my first real job, and it kind of took over my life for a while.

Blue Garlic Keeper by Douglas Bechler

POTTERY

"Garlic Keeper" I started pottery during a friendship with a potter.. I wasn't selling alot of sculpture, and pottery was shiny new, full of possibilities. So I fell into it.. Also, pottery can stand on it's own, as a functional Beautiful object, without so much salesmanship..
