EARTH POD was one of the last sculptures completed, maybe in 1997. It is cast in bronze with a Wenge wood base. My concept was that the symbolic Earth is cradled as in a seed pod. The pod’s surface is a bed of carved symbols. The symbols are abstract and simple, and represent the things that inhabit the Earth. The organic form that holds the pod is plant, or shell-like with different surface textures. The lines flow and form shapes like leaves, feathers, and fins. I always tried to have movement in my work, and hopefully be good-looking 360 degrees around.
